Baker Family Farm

Washington County

The Baker Farm has been a continuously operating farm and ranch since 1906. The land was originally homesteaded by George Valentine Baker and his wife, Anna. The Bakers originally came from Alsace-Lorraine, France. George Valentine Baker and son, George Adam Baker, each filed a homestead 16 miles south and 11 miles east of Akron. Wheat, corn, and cattle have been primary sources of income for the farm. Today it also raises grain, sorghum, millet, and has a growing seed sales business.  George Adam and his wife, Minnie, had two boys, Donald and Glenn. Glenn married Virginia Baker and they stayed on the farm. They had 4 children: Sandra, Dale, Barbra, and Charles. Charles married Marla Muller and remained on the farm. They have 3 children: Danica, Chase, and Colt. Additionally, they have a son-in-law, Hugo Villa, and a grandson, Malakai Villa. The Baker Farm is now operated by the fourth and fifth generation of Bakers. Colt Baker, George Valentine Baker’s great-great grandson, currently lives on, owns, and farms the original homestead, along with his parents.
