Barkley Farm

Yuma County

Andrew and Elizabeth Barkley and their three children, Edwin, Freda, and William, moved from Gravity, Iowa to Fleming, Colorado in the year 1919 and on approximately May 5, 1919 purchased the 160 acres listed above. The property is located two miles West of Fleming, Colorado and lies on the South side of highway 6. When the property was purchased it had on it a small house and about three out-buildings. The original buildings were through the years replaced with new buildings which included a three bedroom house, a large barn built by Andrew in 1941, and various granaries. In the 1950s two quonset huts were constructed. The farm also included a windmill that was torn down in the 1970s. The building site and twenty acres was sold in 1973 by William and Nora Barkley. The remaining 140 acres remained in the family to this date, and is currently owned by Robert W. Barkley.
