Bayou Gulch

Douglas County

Bayou Gulch is a prehistoric campsite with evidence of occupation from the Early Archaic (7800 to 5000 B.P., 6650 to 3800 B.C.E.) through Protohistoric (1540-1860 C.E.) periods. Because of the ongoing occupation through chronological eras, the archaeological site has been used to establish and corroborate the chronological prehistory of eastern Colorado and the west-central Plains.

Archaeological investigations at Bayou Gulch have yielded important information about prehistoric industrial and agricultural practices, as well as insights into the social history of the peoples who inhabited the site over its extended occupation.
