George and Anna Bernhardt, Germans from Frank, Russia came to the United States in 1907. They first lived in Globeville, near Denver. He worked two jobs at the packing plant and for the smelter hauling ashes. He decided that Denver was not the place to raise a family. On March 18, 1920, he purchased what is now known as the Home Farm near Milliken. George and Anna had seven children and they lived in a two room house on the farm until they built the Farmhouse in 1928. Their youngest son Reuben started milking cows when he was eight years old. Reuben married his wife Hester in 1948. In 1950, Reuben  Hester and their son David moved to the farm and took over when George and Anna retired and moved to Milliken. They had four children that they raised on the farm, milking cows and raising crops like corn, sugar beets, potatoes, barley and alfalfa. Their son David returned to the farm after going to mechanical school in 1967 and Tim returned after going to Colorado State University in 1980. David and Tim currently own the farm and are still milking cows and farming the Home Farm.
