Blehm Farm

Larimer County

In 1917, James "Jim" Elder bought a 240-acre farm five miles north-west of Wellington. Trees were planted, a barn and outbuildings were erected. In 1924, a new modem house with a Delco System to provide electricity was built. James fed sheep and raised cattle. He raised sugar beets, com, hay and grain and farming was done with horses until 1940. Jim belonged to the Larimer County Pioneers and served as a director on the North Poudre Irrigation Board. He was dedicated to the development of irrigation water to the Wellington farming area and throughout Larimer County. In 1931, Jim and Maude's son, J.T. married Viola Elder and they moved to an adjoining farm in 1932. A daughter, Jo Ann Lee Elder was born that year. She married Lawrence C. "Tony" Blehm in 1952. After the death of James Elder, Tony took over the farm for almost 18 years. Jo Ann and Tony had two sons, Kevin and Michael. Jo Ann ran the farm until her death in 2014. Upon her death, Michael's family - wife Laquitta and twin sons Reggan and Kennan - carry on the legacy and work of this centennial farm under Blehm Land and Livestock.
