Chaffee County Courthouse and Jail Buildings - Old Courthouse and Jail

Chaffee County

The Chaffee County Courthouse has a long history in the Town of Buena Vista—it has served as a courthouse, a school, and now a museum. Historically the building possessed integral gutters and downspouts that extended down the face of the building. The integral gutter was covered over and the downspouts removed, allowing the water to drain over the edge of the roof.

This grant project will restore the historic drainage configuration and also restore the wrought iron widows' walk railing on the top of the roof. The final phase of the project will be to replace the roof, which will allow for the integral gutter restoration and will correct deficiencies found during a previously conducted historic structure assessment.
