Davies' Chuck Wagon Diner

Jefferson County

The diner is an exceptionally well-preserved example of prefabricated stainless steel diner construction.  Even at the time of its completion in 1957 by Mountain View Diner Inc. in Singac, New Jersey, it was a rare western example of the building type.

A view of the diner with horse on the top of the building and a sign with a cowboy standing on the left with apron next to the diner's name.

Its large, neon lighted cowboy sign remains an excellent example of mid-20th-century roadside advertising.  In 1958, Harlan Sanders awarded the Davies family what is believed to have been the first Colorado franchise for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
