Kleve Farm and Ranch

Frank J. Kleve was born in Humphrey, Nebraska and was one of 11 sons. Frank was the first to leave home. He purchased a farm near Holyoke, Colorado. When conscripted during World War I, he sold the farm.  In 1919, Frank returned to Holyoke, married Elizabeth Heitoff, and purchased a different farm. The farm was further from town and at a higher price. The farm began at 160 acres and has since grown to 2,048. Five generations have lived in the home built by Frank and Elizabeth in 1944.  Their son, Darwin, was called to serve under the command of General Douglass MacAuthur in World War II. He returned to the family farm and in 1947 married Betty Small. They had three daughters and one son. Betty and Darwin’s son, Gene, Served during the Vietnam War and returned home to care for the land. In 1978, Gene Kleve married Rita Brunken. Their three sons along with their families have returned to Kleve Farm and Ranch to continue farming.
