Koeller Farm

Kiowa County

William and Margaret Koeller with daughter, Gladys, came to Sheridan Lake from Freeport, IL, in 1921 to 640 acres southwest of town, building a garage, house, barn, and chicken house.  Sod was broken and the began raising crops and livestock.  160 acres remain in original grass.  William added another 160 acres several years later.  Sons, Bill and Harley were born in 1922 and 1935. Bill and Gladys both married and moved to their own ranches.  Harley married and remained on the home place farming with and for his father.  He took over the farm after William’s death in 1966.  Adding Harley’s own land to the farm it now totals 1920 acres.  Improvements include planted wind break, grain bins, sheds, shop and scales.  Harley has 3 sons, Glen, Marvin and Larry.  Glen moved to Lamar, starting his own business.  Marvin has his own farm and also farms 640 acres of the family land.  Larry farms the rest along with his own farming operation, and has added his house to the original home place.  Harley still operates machinery when needed.  Several varieties of millet, wheat, and forage sorghum are crops raised.  No livestock since 2013.
