Redmond Ranch

Routt County

Originally homesteaded by the Boor family, James Redmond purchased several tracts of this land in 1917. The main house dates from the 1890s, as does the original barn, which was relocated from the Boor homestead to the main ranch during the 20s, along with the building known as "the blacksmith shop".

The ice house was added in the 1930s.  At that time ice was brought to the ranch by horse drawn wagon from a beaver pond about five miles away.  The ice was covered with sawdust from a sawmill in Phippsburg.  In 1948 electricity reached the ranch and ice storage ceased.

The family has raised Hereford cattle, Rambouillet and Suffolk sheep, chickens, native grass hay, oats, and barley. Much of the ranch is held in conservation easements and is listed in the Routt County Historic Register.
