The R.M. Haythorn Farm

Weld County

R.M. Haythorn migrated to Eaton, Colorado in 1885 from Antioch, Ohio, purchasing the farm land from Benjamin H. Eaton in 1900. In 1904, R.M. built the two-story red brick farmhouse and other historic buildings that remain functional in current farming operations. R.M. Haythorn was widely known throughout northern Colorado as an educator and public servant, and was associated with the development of irrigation farming and livestock feeding in Weld County. The 182 acre farm that he purchased has historically produced sugar beets, potatoes, corn, and hay, in addition to raising sheep and cattle. The farm has been owned and operated by five generations of the Haythorn family. Currently under the management of R.M.’s great-great grandsons Joey, Riley, Russ, and Dan, the farm continues to produce sugar beets and corn.
