Temple Aaron (Trinidad)
Las Animas County
Featuring Turkish and Moorish influences in its architecture, Temple Aaron is the last remaining example of the more than 70 buildings designed in Trinidad in the Exotic Revival style by regional architect Isaac Hamilton Rapp.
Located within the Corazon de Trinidad National Historic District, the 1889 building is also the oldest synagogue in continuous use west of the Mississippi River. But after more than a century of use, the synagogue is in need of rehabilitation. In 2015 the congregation will use funding from the State Historical Fund to replace the roof and repair its drainage system so that the architecturally significant building will continue to serve its community and congregation.
