Huerfano County

John Ugolini immigrated to the United States in 1891, one of a wave of Italian immigrants who settled in the coal-rich foothills around Walsenburg and worked in the mines which supplied coal to Pueblo's Colorado Fuel and Iron Co.

Purchased in 1917, Ugolini farm began by selling vegetables, eggs, chickens and milk to area miners, and delivering produce by horse and buggy to the mining camps.  In 1926, as the mining industry started to wane, the Ugolinis began selling produce in a makeshift grocery at the farm.  Later they supplied the U-B Grocery on Walsenburg's Main Street.

By the 40s, Ugolini was bottling and delivering milk to groceries and town residents. Once the US government started reducing dairy operations in the 80s, Bill Ugolini took the buy-out and began raising beef cattle, the farm’s primary business today.
