Vermillion Farms
Elbert County
The Vermillion family came to Colorado in 1907 from Missouri and filed a claim with the Homestead Act.
Levi Vermillion claimed he chose the tract of land because the grass was belly deep on his horse. The family jokes that he must have been riding a Shetland pony. In 1913, all the requirements of the Homestead Act were met and they were awarded their land in the Kutch area. During the last 100 years 6 generations have been on the land and contributed to the local community.
