History Colorado Center to Host NBC News’ “Education Nation” April 12-16

NBC News partners with History Colorado to bring a national conversation about education to Denver

DENVER— April 5, 2012—History Colorado announced today that NBC News has selected the History Colorado Center as the site to host its national “Education Nation-On-The-Road” program—an initiative that brings Colorado educators, business leaders, elected officials, parents and students together to discuss education issues facing the region. All events take place April 12-16 at the History Colorado Center in Denver.

NBC News and MSNBC will air national reports while 9NEWS and Telemundo air special local coverage. The opening ceremony takes place April 12 with state and local Denver leadership. On April 15, NBC News will host a panel discussion on third grade literacy. Later, NBC News Chief Education Correspondent Rehema Ellis and 9News’ Nelson Garcia and Nick McGurk will lead a live Teacher Town Hall with educators from the region. On April 16, “Andrea Mitchell Reports” will air live from the History Colorado Center. Denver-area business and civic leaders will also participate in “Job One: Preparing America to Compete in the 21st Century,” a panel discussion led by Mitchell.

The History Colorado Center is the state’s dynamic new history museum that opens to the public April 28. “When developing the History Colorado Center, we envisioned a highly engaging cultural destination and hub for civic engagement—a place where Coloradans can come to discuss the important issues of today in the context of the past in order to make informed decisions about the future,” said Ed Nichols, History Colorado President and CEO.

“The goal of Education Nation On-The-Road is to ignite the Denver community around local and national education issues and bring solutions to the spotlight. We are very excited to partner with the 9NEWS team to create an education forum in this great city at the History Colorado Center,” Soraya Gage, General Manager of “Education Nation” at NBC News.

History Colorado and other area cultural institutions will offer opportunities for the community to participate in Education Nation’s Backstage Pass events, which include a chance to win an exclusive preview of the History Colorado Center on April 19.
