February 15 'Day of Remembrance' to Commemorate Amache at History Colorado

Denver - The Mile High Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League and History Colorado present the annual ‘Day of Remembrance,’ to commemorate the signing of Executive Order 9066 that enabled the wartime incarceration of 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry (most of them U.S. citizens), in ten “internment camps” across the country.

The program will include a conversation with a panel of survivors, moderated by gil Asakawa from the University of Colorado.  One of the ten camps was located near Granada, CO. Called Amache, it is now an archealogical research center.  Dr. Bonnie Clark from the University of Denver will present an update on that research.  Audience discussions will be lead by Dave Fulton, Director of Facing History and Ourselves, around the viewing of recently discovered contemporary home movies.

Participants will have an opportunity tomeet and talk with the panelists and presenters after the program and will have access to the Histrory Colorado museum and exhibits until 5 p.m.

The program runs from 1-3 p.m.  The presentation is free with museum admission.  For more information contact:  Deborah Radman, Deborah.radman@state.co.us, 303-866-3670.
