Fort Garland Museum Launches On-line Crowd Funding Campaign

Denver - The Friends of Fort Garland are launching an on-line crowd funding campaign to support an oral history project called A Journey of 6000 Miles: an Oral History of Japanese Americans in CostillaCounty.  This project will preserve the history of Japanese descendents from Costilla County, Colorado who were an important part of the economic development in the San Luis Valley.  The campaign begins Feb. 25 and will run until March 31, 2015.

Funding will support an Oral History of Japanese Americans in Costilla County

The stories collected from the project will be archived at the Milton Mueller Library at Fort Garland Museum and the Stephen H. Hart Library and Archives at the History Colorado Center in Denver.  The project description and transcriptions will also be featured in an upcoming issue of the San Luis Valley Historian.  An exhibit documenting the project is planned at Fort Garland Museum to coincide with the journal publication.
