History Colorado supports Colorado communities and historic places by awarding more than $3 million in State Historical Fund grants

Denver - The History Colorado State Historical Fund has awarded 24 grants for historic preservation projects, totaling more than $3 million for their latest grant round.

This grant round, projects include:

  • The rehabilitation of the Graham-Bible House in City Park, which was built in 1893 for the park’s original superintendent and is now office space for Denver Parks and Recreation;
  • The stabilization and renovation of Reynolds Ranch, which was purchased as a part of the 1862 Homestead Act and remains the last known Victorian-era farmhouse in El Paso County;
  • The rehabilitation of the Eads School Gymnasium, a historic 1929 Mission Revival style gymnasium that joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2013;
  • The preservation of the Rumbaugh Creek Bridge in Pagosa Springs, a late-19th-century masonry arch bridge that once provided a vital link for the local wagon road network;
  • The rehabilitation of the Loveland Feed & Grain building, which is being repurposed as affordable workspace for artists;
  • An archaeological study in the Mesa Verde region of the earliest known village in Colorado that is centered around a great kiva.

“This round of SHF funded projects explore the breadth of Colorado’s history, with sites dating all the way back to AD 600 and sites as ‘new’ as 1933,” says Steve Turner, Director of the State Historical Fund, “as well as three projects that help preserve historic hotels, including the 1871 Teller House, one of the few surviving buildings of Denver’s 1874 fire.”
