History Colorado Names Transition Leadership Team

Denver - History Colorado today announced a transition leadership team that will guide the activities of the organization as its board of directors conducts a national search for a new CEO.

Robert E. Musgraves, a member of the board of directors, and Steve Turner, History Colorado’s current vice president of preservation, will co-lead the team. They will work closely with the board of directors, appointed by Gov. John Hickenlooper, to implement the board’s budget plan to ensure History Colorado’s long-term financial stability and continued implementation of the organization’s mission.

On Aug. 20, Ed Nichols announced his retirement after eight years serving as president and CEO.

“We are deeply appreciative of Ed’s tremendous service over the past eight years and the incredible transformation of the organization under his leadership. We are grateful that Ed will assist with transition,” said Ann Alexander Pritzlaff, chair of the board of directors. “A national search for a new CEO to lead the organization through the next chapter will begin immediately.”

Turner joined the organization in 2008 as director of the State Historical Fund grants program and has directed the organization’s preservation activities for the past six years. Musgraves, a retired business executive and lawyer who most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Titanium Metals Corporation (TIMET), joined the Board in 2014 and was re-appointed by Hickenlooper in July.

“Bob and Steve are perfectly suited to lead us during this time,” Pritzlaff said. “Bob successfully led several history organizations through periods of transition, while Steve is a highly regarded leader in his field with demonstrated ability to manage government agencies. History Colorado has a bright future ahead.”

In addition to the ongoing Toys of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s at History Colorado, upcoming programs include:

  • Friday’s 29th Centennial Farms Celebration at the Colorado State Fair on Friday;
  • the next segment of the Colorful Colorado program celebrating Rocky Mountain National Park;
  • an upcoming exhibit Searching for Home;
  • a companion exhibit at the Byers-Evans House Museum that showcases the artwork from our new book The Denver Artists Guild: Its Founding Members an Illustrated History;
  • the Changing America exhibit at El Pueblo History Museum.
