PUEBLO, Colo., (August 31, 2022) Puebloans have enjoyed the Mineral Palace Park for decades, but many may not know its colorful history and grandiose beginnings.You Should’ve Seen It: Pueblo’s Mineral Palace follows the strange and little-known history of the Colorado Mineral Palace, which despite being an icon of the state and the city in the first half of the twentieth century, drifted into urban legend and folklore in the second half.
DENVER (August 29, 2022) — History Colorado is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Miles and Bancroft Awards, presented annually to some of the most exemplary and impactful historical projects across the state.
DENVER (Aug. 22, 2022) – History Colorado and the Colorado Department of Agriculture have expanded their annual Centennial Farms and Ranches commemoration to include categories that now recognize the cultural and commercial sides of agriculture’s heritage, in addition to Colorado ranch and farm family operations who are honored for their longstanding commitment to agricultural values.
DENVER (August 15, 2022) — On Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, History Colorado presents a special event “A City Imagined: A Historic Evening with Denver Mayors.” This rare opportunity brings together four of the city’s past and present mayors for a discussion on Denver’s history and growth, the important role local government plays and their passion for the Mile High City.
DENVER (August 12, 2022) — The Native American Boarding School Research Program Act, HB22-1327, was signed into law by Governor Jared Polis on May 24, 2022, and directs History Colorado to investigate the lived experiences of students at the onetime federal Indian boarding school in Hesperus, Colo., as well as identify potential burial places of students who perished while attending the school. The site of the former school and potential burial places is owned today by the Colorado State Land Board and managed by Fort Lewis College.
DENVER (July 29, 2022) – On Colorado Day, Aug. 1, Dr. Jared Orsi, Ph.D., professor of history at Colorado State University (CSU), will begin his one-year position as the State Historian and leader of History Colorado’s State Historian’s Council, succeeding noted historian and professor Dr. Nicki Gonzales. The five-person council rotates this leadership role every year on Colorado’s birthday, to achieve greater reach and representation for the state, to amplify different perspectives and to reinforce the collaborative foundation of history and storytelling.
